Illustration I did for a character design assignment this Spring semester at the Academy of Art University. I just switched my major to Visual Development from Game Design. I fit my personal and professional goals more directly. It's a brand new major just offered this semester. A great opportunity for me to further develop my skills plus learn about the industries I want to enter.
This was originally blocked out lightly with Prismacolor Col Erase Indigo Blue, then penciled with various mechanical pencils. If I plan on selling the pencils, or just want a good long lasting paper, I found I like Borden & Riley #120 Bristol Plate best. It's a 157 lb paper, which makes it good and sturdy. The surface is perfect for pencils, inks, and markers. I use mechanical pencils mostly, and this thick Bristol Plate works like a charm. Other Bristol Plates can be too soft and the mechanical pencils cut deep into the paper, which is horrible if you need to erase. This paper is just right, at least for my drawing method.
