Sketch Book 15: El Senor y La Senorita

Drawing relationships...  only so much you can capture in a short amount of time.  I'm not very good at speed.  Only sometimes ;[  Oh, well.  I had a lot of fun with these drawings.  I should probably work on a realistic digital painting sometime.  I think it has potential.  I'm just slammed with finishing Finals for this Spring Semester.  Which means, I'll have some great material to be uploaded in the next few weeks!  Working with typical Newsprint and compressed charcoal pencils on this.  4B is my favorite pencil to sketch in btw.

The Downhill Derby Cover Art: Work in Progress 1

This is a basic value comp for my cover design for The Downhill Derby.  I'm more focused on achieving the themes involved with the story at this point than details.  I'm also working on the title art which will really make this thing look like a cover.  The Downhill Derby is a story about racing (duh), friendship, teamwork, and the struggle to achieve victory - and learning that it's okay not to win.  Well now that I've ruined the story for you, I hope you are looking forward to it's ever so slow production.  Updates will come soon as the cover design nears completion. I'm very excited about this ^_^

Sketch Book 14: Life Studies - Ballerinas and Breakdancing

Had some fun doing some life studies today.  Got the reference photos for these from pixelovely.com (http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php).  It's a great source for figure studies.  These studies were primarily about studying light and shadow on the form.  The ballerina started out with newsprint entirely covered in vine charcoal.  Then lightly drawn with charcoal pencil, all tone done with a kneaded erasure.  That took quite some time using going from dark to light.

Robot Pit Crew: Final - Spring Show Submission

I added some texture to give the illustration more pop, and renamed the title to "A Helping Hand".  This will be submitted to the Academy of Art University Spring Show which will be showcased this year at the Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.  No official word yet on whether it will be accepted, but my professor thought it would have a good chance at making it in the show.  There's going to be some industry professionals at the show, EA and Pixar included.  My style isn't their style, but it will be great to get my work out there to be seen by at least a good handful of people in the world.

I decided to throw this in here as well.  It's what it looks like before cropped.  I like images like the rough parts.  You can see the border lines for the image and some other color choices building up the color too.
