Sketching Time

Homework drives me nuts some times.  It's hard always sticking to the curriculum, it's nice to deviate once in a while when you find time and sketch on your own.  I did some sketches today, and decided to sketch a little in Photoshop, which I usually never do.  Perhaps, I should do so more often?

  1. An instructor of mine recently criticized me for having "sausage-link" characters. Mean, the characters are made from bubble or sausage like limbs. It's a beginner method of drawing using ovals and circles to lay out a character's form, which in reality, the shapes are organic and are all completely unique. He was right of course. It's hard illustrating anime-esque characters trying to add realistic detail and then again not so much at the same time. I'm developing my style to be more on the Korean side like Hyung Tae Kim and many others where the line between cartoon and realism is more on the realism side yet anime enough.

I'm working on realism more to help achieve that direction in my own character designs.
